Thank you!
Reasons for optimism after a difficult year
This summer, I was hopeful we were crushing the Covid pandemic, and for a few months, I enjoyed meeting friends and going to garden parties again. Now I’m back inside and wondering how things will continue next year - friendships, work assignments, life.
“The world as we knew it is coming to an end, and it’s up to us how it ends and what comes after,” author Rebecca Solnit writes in this Guardian essay that I highly recommend. “We must remake the world, and we can remake it better.” She describes ten ways that help her deal with the climate crisis without losing hope, and I want to share a snapshot of them here because they inspired me, and I hope they’ll inspire you, too.
1. Feed your feelings on facts
2. Pay attention to what’s already happening
3. Look beyond the individual and find good people
4. The future is not yet written. We are writing it now.
5. Indirect consequences matter
6. Imagination is a superpower
7. Check the facts (and watch out for liars)
8. History can guide us
9. Remember the predecessors
10. Don’t neglect beauty
The last piece of advice might the most important. As Solnit says, “If you forget what you’re fighting for, you can become miserable, bitter and lost.”
Thank you for your support this year, for your interest in Healthy Solutions, and for finding beauty in the struggle for a better world.
I wish you a merry Christmas, I wish you a merry Christmas... and a happy new year!
With love,
Michaela
